1) The climate change and environmental problem the earth faces is by far the biggest. Without a suitable habitat (planet) to live on we will not be able to solve any of the rest of the worlds problems. The best way to go about doing it is for the worlds govenrments to instil and enforce tighter regulations on environmentally harmful companies and factories, and focus more funds into renewable energy research.
2) Global poverty rates are still staggering and what is even more staggering is how genuinely easy it is to end it. In my opinion the easiest way to solve this issue is for world governments to put a reasonable and small tax on those who are able to pay to collectively raise $15-20 billion annually to help send aid to those in need.
3) Domestic abuse is a very big world problem and it affects us alot here in the US. The govenment could help to solve this by educating youths about the dangers of domestic abuse, how to avoid it, and what to do if in an abusive situation. By educating young minds the future of the country may be saved from rampant domestic abuse.
4) Abortion is something that is very close to my heart. I believe that not only does it take the lives onnocent children but it also can be emotionally harmful to mothers. The embassasment and guilt of having an aborting has led to hundreds of thousands of suicides in the US and millions of cases of depression. I believe that rather than make abortion sound like it is no big deal we 1. reach out to women who plan on having an abortion and 2. reach out to the women who have had an abortion and are in a depression. I believe that the right minded charities can be the ones to do this.
5) And im gonna finish off with cockroaches. The government needs to fund more research on cockroach pesticides, because they are definitely the bane of the earths existence.

Nahel,
ReplyDeleteFirst, I love the name of your blog, it's clever and witty! Your list was quite random but interesting nonetheless.
On that note, I will address domestic abuse as I agree, this is a big issue not only in the US but around the world. I feel the issue around the world is at times cultural, however, that does not make it right. In the US, there is not a direct solution to addressing the problem; sure we have safe havens for those the victims but I feel there needs to be more stringent penalties for the aggressor.

Nahel,
ReplyDeleteI think we had the same ideas about the world's problems but I did not think of domestic abuse. It's sad but we're almost conditioned to accept it or turn the other cheek. I think your idea of educating at a young age is a great idea. I'm sure there are even precursors to indicate kids who are likely to repeat this cycle. There needs to be more of a conversation and certainly more protection. Thanks for bringing light to a topic that usually goes unnoticed.
If you're up to it, stop by.

Hey Nahel! I had a few of the same issues that you brought up. I agree with your assertion that climate change is a very serious problem, and our world's leaders need to do more to combat it. Also, you bring up a very good point with the cockroaches.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing! If you want to check out my post, here's a link. http://jamestyrrell.blogspot.com/2016/01/top-5-world-problems.html
Hello Nathel,
ReplyDeleteFirst off, I liked the picture you included. It is clever and brings humor into an otherwise gloomy assignment. I agree that climate change is one of the top five problems in the world right now. Even if we gave everyone money, and resources to fix hunger and poverty, we do not currently have a sustainable system and would just run out of everything. I believe that both overconsumption and overpopulation are major contributors to the issue of global warming, and that is why I included both of them in my original top ten problems.

Putting abortion as a top five problem is the first time I've seen someone list that as a concern in this class. I think this goes to show how original you can be, and I'm curious to see what ethical, legal and medical standards you would put in place to address this issue. I didn't have a specific medical issues in my top five issues, but I think the ethics around this debate brings about spirited discussion.

Hi Nahel,
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed reading you post because even though your top five problems differed from mine, I agree that they are all major problems. Abortion being one of your top five problems is one I have not seen in other post, but this issue is one i feel passionately about so I like that you included it! Much like Oliver said, i did not put anything too specific like abortion in my top five, but I can see how this is something that is seen around the world making it something to be talked about.

Hello Nahel,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your blog post. The first two problems were very similar to mine and others that I have read but the rest were unique, especially number 5! I did not realize that abortion led to so many suicides. It is a much bigger problem than I had known. I agree that cockroaches are a huge problem but I don't know what the solution could be to get rid of them since they can survive a nuclear bomb.
