Growing My Social Capital

1) Jesus

  •         I met Jesus through a mutual friend of ours. He works for EMC corporation, which is a large technology company that manufactures and creates data storage systems, information security systems and cloud computing systems. This person is my domain expert and can give me just the right advice and connections when it comes to producing my receips scanner app and data base. Also he will come in handy in the production of the machine bits for the actual scanner machine should i need a seperate machine and not just a scanable code. He was introduced to me as a friend of my friends mother. I have gotten a hold of him on the phone and we have discussed for a few minutes how to efficiently make an app with the most fluid design and ease of use with the code scanner.

2) Gustavo Salazar

  •     Gustavo is the head of marketing in the Peruvian insurance broker Trust. I met him through my uncle who is the founder and CEO of the company. Through these two men the company had grown from a two men broker insuring only one small soda factory to the largest broker in Peru and one of the largest in south america. Although Gustavo is not directly involved in the market for my receipt machine his vast experience and success in the consumer marked will prove indispensible with me. I spoke to him over facebook messenger for a bit and he shared really valuable marketing advice that could help my company get started. Keeping him in touch will be a must in order to help quickly grow myh company and even insure it as well!
3) Daniel S.

  •     Daniel works for PCM which is a technology distributer. I got connected through him via a friend of mine. He can get me connected with a tech manufaturer in order to be able to produce my receipt scanning device and possibly web designers who can also develope a proper website and app for my company.

REFLECTION:

  • This was a very interesting and fun assignment. It showed just how much work it actually takes to star a new company and produce a product. Also i felt very good talking to people about my idea to eliminate paper waste from receipts and the positive feedback and interest i received from my new contacts.

  1. Nahel,

This may sound so messed up, but since I'm used to going on your blog for assignments that I didn't do, I'm used to finding humor. I thought you actually put that the first person you knew was Jesus, as in the son of God lol. Besides that, I think it's interesting how far networking actually goes. It seems that all the people you met were through family or friends. That's great because by the time you decide to pursue this idea, your network will have grown further. I truly thought this assignment was finding people that you've never met, which is why I didn't do it.

  2. Nahel,

Great job describing your networking experiences, although not everything about your post was as specific as I would've liked. It was intriguing to read about how you knew each one of your connections, and it made me realize just how important networking is (it truly can make or break you/ your business concept). I'm glad you got positive feedback from your connections, so did I- and it also made me feel really good! You can check out my blogpost here, to compare yours to mine: http://cassidymckbusiness.blogspot.com/2016/03/growing-my-social-capital.html.

  3. Hi Nahel,
I think you did a great job with this assignment. This was the first assignment that I was not able to do given that I did not find experts in my field, and did not even consider asking family members or family friends, which I probably should have. Networking is essential for success and did not even consider asking my parents for their help. Great job!

  4. I'm sorry but I got to mention that the first one made me laugh so hard. At first I thought you were talking about THE Jesus (with no last name...). Connections are always good to have. Although both sides must have something good to offer to each other (generally). You have some cool connections. Good post!

  5. Hello Nahel,
I think you did a great job of finding experts in your field! I must add, you are very fortunate to have a network of people to draw from that can help expand and work on your business idea. In starting a business I think it is crucial to have a good network of people in the field you are pursuing already establish; it looks like you do! I think you did a good job addressing all components of this assignment and I enjoyed reading your write ups about your experts and was interested in your method of finding them. I'm glad you received positive feedback and I wish you the best of luck on your venture!

I did not do this assignment, but you can find my blog here: http://mariakongosfirstblogever.blogspot.com/

  6. Hello Nahel,

I had to reread the beginning of your post when I saw that you met Jesus...lol I was definitely jealous for a second. On a serious note, the biggest takeaway from this post for me was Gustavo Salazar. He provided key insights for how to maintain your social connections as the old adage of it's not what you know, but who you know" still rings true. You were able to gather some key figures for this assignment and it shows how far you've come in this class.

You've been able to network further and gather the message you want for your potential customers when you start up your venture.

  7. Nahel!

You did a great job on your post. You went out and actually talked with real people about your business idea and I think that is scary to do sometimes! Also, I thought that the people choose to interview were good fits for what you are looking for. I think that you gained a lot of valuable knowledge and it truly made your idea grow.

  10. Hey Nahel, I loved your post. In the comments section I saw that someone commented that the first person you had in your network was THE JESUS and I laughed so hard because before starting to read I thought the exact same thing hahaha. The fact that you were able to make those types of contacts is phenomenal, especially when trying to startup in the tech industry. Keep up the good work! I did not complete the assignment but feel free to check out my blog http://lovetravellives.blogspot.com/

  11. Nahel,

You seem to be quite the popular man. Like the rest our peers said, Jesus brought a nice laugh to the blog. In regards to the assignment, you did a good job of going out and creating connections. As an entrepreneur, it is extremely important to always seek out mentors or friends in the industry that we can both learn and grow from. It was nice to end back up on your blog and I hope you still have been enjoying a successful semester and are genuinely learning from this class.

Although I didn't complete this assignment, I have attached the link to my blog and would like your input and thoughts.

  13. One of the best things your have on your team is a peeps. To help with marketing. Marketing is very tricky and if you don't have the right people to help you do it, it could go all wrong.I didn't do my assignment because I am working with the cable companies and I had no idea it would be this much work. Great job

  16. Hey Nahel, great job on finding well qualified and outstanding professionals. There are a lot of people out there that can help but it looks like you found some potentially powerful connections if you pursue this idea. It is good to have someone with the marketing and sales expertise that Gustavo seems to provide in addition to having someone like Jesus to help with data storage. I didn't complete this assignment but it seemed difficult to actually get ahold of someone in an industry that Im not sure even exists as in my case. Great work.

    Check out my blog!
