Idea Napkin NO.2

1) My name is Nahel Abugattas, I am a chemistry major. Some things about me include: having a major that has nothing to do with my business concept, the fact that I don't really want to be an entrepreneur because I want to be a doctor, and also I have long hair. As far as talents go, I have an uncanny ability to maintain low self-esteem despite my charisma and charming demeanor. Also I'm pretty smart hard working and very detail oriented. But more importantly sometimes I think that I'm funny, but many times it's evident that I'm not. If this business actually takes off and becomes part of my life I would imagine it would probably be my future. If I were to begin acting upon my ideas and begin my business then I foresee many obstacles but also many rewards down the line. I would definitely need to learn a lot more and become far more experienced before taking upon this take and doing it well.
2) I will be offering an application that will be able to scan receipts directly from a computer or register monitor that I would also need to provide. This scan would save 1 copy of the receipt onto a cloud based storage on the customer’s account and would be able to be accessed via the app or online on a separate website. The scanned receipt would serve as proof of purchase like any normal receipt but will be a purely digital copy thereby using no paper.
3) My product will be offered to anybody with a smartphone who purchases things regularly. The more target market would be individuals from the ages of 18 - 60 who regularly purchase things, are independent, and do most of their own shopping.
4) Anybody who is remotely interested in helping the environment would be interested in my product. Also the convenience of digital accessibility while never needing to take up memory on a person’s phone would ease the process of organizing receipts for tax purposes and return purposes. Online the receipts could be categorized for easy locating making it far more convenient. Also corporations can see a huge return on their investment in the machines used to scan the receipts. Millions of dollars spent annually on paper rolls for receipts would be saved and the retailers can keep all their promotions and special anything that they usually keep on their receipts.
5) As far what sets me apart? I am not aware of any company that is currently doing anything similar. There are certain register companies like Square who can email receipts to you, but nothing that uses an app to have an easily accessible digital receipt. And an email of a receipt is very inconvenient to keep organized.

I think my business has a few key weaknesses. The first being that for it to have any real impact it would need to be implemented in large nation or worldwide retailers. There wouldn't be much of an impact only being used by a few local companies although it would be convenient and money saving for them. Also it would have to work in tandem with people downloading the app. If millions of people have an app but only a few places to use it then people wouldn't keep using the app. The product would first need to be implemented at large retailers and advertised there in order for it to be truly convenient. Then people would begin downloading the app in large quantities and much power will be saved.

FEEDBACK MEMO
For the feedback that i received i can only derive a few points. For one Ive been told that my idea is very good and potentially very beneficial to the environment and that i should try to pursue that. I found this is very encouraging. Also people told me to be more confident in myself and my product. Confidence breathes success and i will need to be confident in order to succeed. I also need to work on my own strengths and weaknesses and be sure to assess myself throughout the entrepreneurial process in order to better myself and in turn better my company. Knowing your personality can help you properly asses your strengths and weaknesses and i believe that in order to succeed i have to know myself first, and work to better myself throughout my career.

  1. Great post. It's jam-packed with assessments based on feedback and support for your venture idea. If you ask me, I think this a great project that you can one day implement from a vision to a reality. You seem to already have a strong foundation how it's going to work, keep up the good work! 2. Hey Nahel,
I agree with Gabrielle and also think that you have a very strong foundation. It seems that you really know who you are and what your goals are. That's always a good thing to know and have as an entrepreneur. I can see how ambitious you are. I think this application could really work and it would be really successful. As someone who cannot keep track of anything, I would realy appreciate it. Keep up the good work! Here is the link to my Idea Napkin :

  3. Hey Nahel,
This is a good idea. You probably wouldn't believe me if I said I was thinking about something like this the other day. Not so thought out, but the fact that we still use receipts is odd. Stores don't even necessarily give them to you, they just ask if you want it and throw it away if you say no. It definitely is a waste of paper, and I agree with the other comments that you have to have more confidence, at least the appearance of it. 4. Good job in recognizing the need for confidence and proper evaluation of strengths and weaknesses. The product definitely needs to be implemented on a wide scale, but with the right pitch to the right high-level leader, you could do it. Keep working on your self esteem! Anyways, I don't know how safe your idea is; the data would definitely need to be encrypted. Check out my blog at intro2ent.blogspot.com ; I wasn't able to complete this assignment though.

  5. Nahel, you seem to have a good head on your shoulders and a mature sense for your strengths and what you want to do. Definitely don't discount your sense of humor in whatever you end up doing. Whether you go the healthcare route or start a business relationships mean everything and your sense of humor should serve you well! Best of luck.

  7. I think that your idea is great actually. It could completely get rid of paper receipts and having a cloud is perfect for proof of purchase. I would say that a lot of stores are starting to store purchase and client info in their databases already and they offer email receipts which is a similar concept to yours. I think you did a great job though.

  8. I think this idea is ingenious and will help maintain organized purchases. This will help many people who struggle to find receipts to return items. The demographic age that you've listed is very accurate. This idea will help form the transition from paper to technology, hopefully for a more sustainable world and a smaller eco footprint. Also, it will be easier to pull up any previous purchase form however long ago. Imagine how hard it might be to remember where you put the receipt for a purchase you purchased over 30 days ago. This will help the time and energy that would otherwise be put in in searching for that flimsy piece of paper! Great idea! Hope it comes to life!

Hi! Great post with all the videos of people that know you best to describe your best attributes! It's a great trait to be detail oriented and meticulous when it comes to your work. You don't want to be represented poorly by sloppy, or messy work because that's your reputation and you want to uphold the good things. Awesome that you learned about yourself throughout the entire process, like that you're inclusive and show a great love for your friends. That will help build and strengthen your old and new relationships.

  9. Nahel,

Obviously, your idea is good. The previous eight comments validate that fact. What I think you need to work on is the way you present yourself. Despite your disinterest in entrepreneurship, in any field you should present yourself in an optimistic, positive tone. Both of my parents are MDs, and I can tell you, first-hand, that being self-positive is an important part of (a) being a resident (which, as you probably know, is an incredibly demanding, stressful job), and (b), succeeding in the every changing medical profession. In fact, if you spoke to my father at this moment, he'd ardently advise you to think of medicine as a business oriented field, or, something deceptively entrepreneurship oriented- be more open . Other than this, your idea is of course, sound. Just work on how you present yourself, because I think it will affect more than just your short stint in the business world.

Good luck. I especially wish you luck in the competitive Medical school application process-- you can do it! Actually, I wish you more than luck.

  10. Hi Nahel
I really enjoyed your blog post. I thought it was really interesting how you went about introducing yourself. One thing that really stood out to me is how authentic you seemed to be. You were very open about your faults .I think you have a really cool idea and that could be very beneficial for the environment. I think it has a lot of potential for growth.

  11. Ok so you don’t want to be an entrepreneur but you have to take this course I’m assuming? That must suck. Anywhoo I like your idea because I can never keep up with receipts. This would be perfect for me. I do believe that you will corner the market and kill the game. Hopefully you get this set up. Great Job

  12. Nahel,
I think that this idea had potential but I also think that it is going to cost a lot of money to create if you have to create a brand new register and app. Well, if med school doesn't work out than you can always fall back on this idea since no one has done it before! Congrats and good luck becoming a doctor! That is awesome! I would post a link but I did not complete the assignment.
